What’s going on?

Your amygdala, a part of your brain that registers change, is designed to alert you to potential threats. However, many of us have been overloaded with stimuli so this part of the brain doesn’t turn off. (Ever!) This overruns your sympathetic nervous system (so it’s like you’re constantly running from a tiger) and impairs long term health.

In this current reality, we’re bombarded by all kinds of perceived threats, constantly putting our brain into heightened alert. Add this to the fact that there is faster change happening than ever before on the planet, and now more of us are living in constant fight-or-flight than ever before.

This is why it’s hard to enjoy things and why relatively minor things can trigger us into a full-blown panic. We may think something is wrong with us, and so turn to medications or other treatments to dial things down. However, what’s really needed is to let our brain know that all is well and that it’s okay to operate in a higher frequency, one that has space for rapid change and integrates it seamlessly.

This requires a massive upgrade in our consciousness which is what MINDBODY MEDICINE is all about. 

How does this work?

When you carry old patterns of fear, lack, and inadequacy, your brain is constantly trying to protect you.

It literally creates energetic barriers so you do not let new information in, such as people, ideas, opportunities, love — so you manage as best you can from where you are.

This may work to a limited degree for a short time, but holding this protection and limited perspective blocks your ability to receive what you need!

When you’re ready to receive love, light, and harmony, you can meet those deep fears, pains, memories, or hurts and let them dissolve! Then you are no longer living in fear and can open up to joy.

The brain no longer registers expansion as a threat, and your nervous system can function in harmony!

Step 1.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION

Relax and feel your body.  
Let everything distill down, and just feel what’s going on.
Where is your breath flowing? Is there tension?
Is there a fluttering sensation? A heaviness?
Notice without needing to fix it or attend to what’s arising. 
Be willing to let this fear, tension, or heaviness arise without buying into the idea that it’s not okay. 

Take 3 to 5 conscious breaths to release any tension you are holding.
Let the breath come in through the nose, filling to your belly.
Let your belly expand out on the inhales, and sink in on the exhales.
Slow your inhales and exhales as much as is comfortable and see the energy of this tension and fear release as you exhale!
Do this as long as you need to so your body can do what it already knows how to do: release tension and come back into harmony.

Take 3 to 5 conscious breaths to release any tension you are holding.
Let the breath come in through the nose, filling to your belly.
Let your belly expand out on the inhales, and sink in on the exhales.
Slow your inhales and exhales as much as is comfortable and see the energy of this tension and fear release as you exhale!
Do this as long as you need to so your body can do what it already knows how to do: release tension and come back into harmony.

GET CONSCIOUS

Ask yourself: “What if I just let this all be exactly as it is?”
Would you be willing to just let these energies release with the breath?
Maybe you’ve thought “But it won’t be okay if I don’t do something,” or “I can’t handle this…”
Ask yourself “Is this true?” and breathe.
Who would you be without this thought? 
Observe what you notice and tell your body “We can let this energy be as it is, and relax into what we notice.”

Who am I and Why am I doing this work?

When I was younger I suffered terribly with severe anxiety and panic disorder.

Since this was way back in the 80’s and early 90’s, not many people had any idea what was going on.

I felt isolated and embarrassed about this, and indescribably terrorized.

No medications or therapy really got to the root of what was going on, so I literally had to find out for myself about the mind-body connection.

Being highly intuitive, this had always been apparent to me. Now it was like having a crash course in healing myself!

I began to see how my thoughts affected my body and how I could use my breath to calm the anxiety.

I would lie in bed at night as thoughts would run through my mind.

It was amazing what I witnessed. Certain thoughts would initiate a physical tension and my body would literally jump; other thoughts would bring relaxation and calm.

Healing could happen when I came into the right alignment within. This was amazing!

In the medical world I had grown up in, this was earth shattering news.

I knew I needed to bring this to a larger forum of medical practitioners. This is a large part of what inspired me to become a physician.

I wanted to bring awareness of this mind-body connection into my work.

Flash forward years later and I’m an ER doctor (no surprise, living in fight-or-flight I was drawn to Emergency Medicine!) beginning to see that the study of health, not disease, was the path to an evolved society.
